Electric kettle: units per month in Pakistan
Short answer. An 1,800 watt kettle uses about 0.03 units to boil a single cup and roughly 0.1 units for a full litre. Four boils a day is about 0.48 units daily and roughly 14 units a month — genuinely minor, provided you are not boiling a full kettle for one cup.

The only variable that matters is how much water
A kettle is close to 100 per cent efficient at turning electricity into hot water. There is no efficiency gain available in the appliance itself.
The entire saving is in volume. Boiling 1.7 litres to make one cup wastes about 85 per cent of the energy, every time, and a household that does it ten times a day is throwing away roughly 25 units a month for nothing.
Kettle versus gas
On a gas hob a great deal of the flame's heat goes around the pan rather than into it, so gas is less efficient in energy terms — but gas is usually cheaper per unit of delivered heat in Pakistan, and the comparison depends on current prices.
In practice, the kettle wins on speed and on not being subject to gas load shedding, which is why it has replaced the hob for tea in a great many homes.
How to use less
- Fill to the number of cups you are making, not to the maximum line.
- Descale it. Scale on the element insulates it and lengthens every boil, and hard water is common across Pakistan.
- Do not reboil water that is still hot from ten minutes ago.
