Figures are indicative for a typical household and several are seasonal — the geyser and heater numbers apply in winter, the cooling ones in summer, so they do not stack in the same month. The guide on staying under 200 units shows no figure because its value is not a unit saving at all: it is keeping a tariff status that changes the rate applied to everything else.
Questions about reducing a bill
What is the single biggest way to reduce an electricity bill in Pakistan?
In winter, switching off an electric geyser rather than leaving it on — the difference between roughly 540 units a month and 120. In summer, setting the air conditioner to 26 °C and running a ceiling fan alongside it. No other single change comes close to either.
Why is a unit saved worth more than the rate on my bill suggests?
Because slab pricing is progressive, the units you remove come off the top of your consumption at the highest rate you reached — not at an average rate. A hundred units cut from a 600-unit month is worth substantially more than a hundred cut from a 200-unit one.
Do energy-saving measures help if my bill is high because of FPA and taxes?
Yes, because the fuel price adjustment, the quarterly adjustment and the surcharges are all per-unit charges, and sales tax is computed on a base that includes them. Reducing units reduces every one of those lines proportionally.
Is it worth unplugging devices to save standby power?
Barely. A modern television draws about half a watt on standby, roughly 4 units a year. The devices worth switching off are the ones designed to run continuously — a water dispenser's hot tank, an idle UPS, unused mesh nodes — not chargers left in sockets.
