LED television: units per month in Pakistan
Short answer. A 43 inch LED television drawing about 90 watts and watched five hours a day uses 0.45 units daily and roughly 14 units a month. Screen size is the dominant variable — a 55 inch set can easily be double a 32 inch one for the same viewing hours.
Power draw
- Low: 35 W
- Typical: 90 W — the figure used in every calculation below
- High: 180 W
32 inch panels sit near 35–50 W, 43 inch near 70–90 W, 55 inch and above 110–180 W. Brightness setting shifts this by 20 to 30 per cent.
Units and cost by usage pattern
Each row is 90 W × the hours shown ÷ 1,000, over 30 days. The three cost columns exist because the rupee cost of a unit depends entirely on which slab your month lands in — the same consumption costs a light user and a heavy summer household very different amounts. Rates are illustrative and not a substitute for the tariff table printed on your own bill.
| Usage pattern | Units / day | Units / month | At Rs 12.5/unit | At Rs 27.5/unit | At Rs 36/unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 43 inch, five hours a day | 0.45 | 13.5 | Rs 169 | Rs 371 | Rs 486 |
| Television on most of the day in a shop (12 hours) | 1.08 | 32.4 | Rs 405 | Rs 891 | Rs 1,166 |
Rate bands: Rs 12.5 — light user, protected (≈150 units/month); Rs 27.5 — average household (≈250 units/month); Rs 36 — heavy summer month (700+ units). This appliance runs all year, so the monthly figure applies in every cycle.
Brightness is a real setting, not a cosmetic one
Televisions ship in a showroom mode with backlight near maximum, which is designed to look good under bright shop lighting and is uncomfortably bright in a normal room.
Dropping the backlight to a comfortable level typically cuts consumption by 20 to 30 per cent and looks better. It is the only meaningful adjustment available on a television.
Standby, in proportion
A modern television draws roughly half a watt on standby. Left on standby all year that is about 4 units — real, but trivial next to the 170 units the same set uses being watched.
The old advice to unplug electronics dates from an era of much worse standby power. It is not wrong, it is just no longer where the money is.
How to use less
- Turn the backlight down from the factory setting; it is the single adjustment that matters.
- Use the eco or home mode rather than the vivid showroom preset.
- Switch it off rather than leaving it playing to an empty room — the largest saving is always the unwatched hours.
Frequently asked questions
How many units does a TV use per month in Pakistan?
Roughly 8 units for a 32 inch set at five hours a day, 14 for a 43 inch, and 25 or more for a 55 inch. Viewing hours and screen size drive it entirely.
Does leaving the TV on standby waste much electricity?
Around 4 units a year on a modern set. It is worth switching off at the wall on a bank of devices, but it is not where a high bill comes from.
